Most tests of this kind are multiple choice, which means a child can work out what the right answer looks like and give it back to you. The Empathy Measure does not work that way. It asks ten open questions, one at a time, adapts to what the person says, and reads the answers properly. It takes about ten minutes and it is free.
Why it is built as a conversation
When researchers went back and re examined decades of selection data in 2022, the strongest single predictor of how someone performs was not the cognitive test. It was the structured interview, the one where a person is asked real questions and their actual answers are judged. That is what this is, run by an AI so it can be given to anyone, anywhere, for nothing.

- One thing to practise for the skill that came out lowest.
- A version written for the child to read, and a version written for you.
The honest limits
It is not a diagnosis and it never names a condition. It measures what someone was able to put into words on one day, which is a real thing but not the whole of them. Answers are read by the AI to write the result and are not stored afterwards. Children under seven cannot do it themselves, so a parent answers about the child instead, and it runs in more than thirty languages.
A measure is not a plan
The Measure is free, it keeps nothing, and it tells a parent where their child stands today. That is all it does, and it is enough on its own.
What comes after it is the other half: the Measure names where a child is now, and the record is what shows the distance travelled a year later.
