The SG Child Support Package, Explained for Parents

On August 23, 2026, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong announced the SG Child Support Package at the National Day Rally. It is the biggest change to family support in a generation. Every Singaporean child will receive close to S$70,000 in direct support by the time they turn 17. Here is what your family gets, when it arrives, and how to make it count.
What is the SG Child Support Package?
The package replaces the Baby Bonus Scheme and the Large Families Scheme. It provides up to S$62,000 for each Singaporean child, and the amount is the same regardless of birth order. Together with other components, total direct support comes to close to S$70,000 by age 17. The package takes effect from April 1, 2027. According to the National Population and Talent Division, around 610,000 children across 380,000 households are expected to benefit.

The first five rows are the S$62,000 package. The MediSave Grant and Edusave contributions are what bring total direct support to close to S$70,000.
My child is already born. What do we get?
You are not left out. If your child is still receiving the Baby Bonus Cash Gift, those payments continue until March 31, 2027. If the total you have received is less than S$10,000, the government tops it up by April 30, 2027 to bring it to S$10,000, matching the new Baby Gift amount.
Child Credits extend to Singaporean children aged 16 and below in 2026. S$2,000 arrives each year on your child's birthday, starting from their age in 2026 and continuing until they turn 16. Children turning 1 to 16 in 2026 receive their 2026 Child Credits by April 30, 2027. If your child turns 17 in 2026, they receive the S$10,000 PSEA top-up in June 2027.
If your child is 12 or below in 2027, their CDA is extended to the end of the year they turn 16, instead of closing at 12.
What can Child Credits be used for?
The government has described Child Credits as flexible support that families can use where they need it most. Full disbursement details will be announced. The current Child LifeSG credits work through the LifeSG app at merchants that accept PayNow UEN QR or NETS QR payments, in stores and online. The new Child Credits are expected to follow a similar model. For most families the honest answer is that this money goes on tuition, enrichment, childcare and school costs, which is where the decision gets hard.
What is ending
The increased CDA First Step Grant for large families ceases from April 2027. Large Family LifeSG Credits will also end, because Child Credits now go to every eligible child. Large families with three or more children continue to receive the S$5,000 MediSave grant, and will receive further support for transport and housing, with details to come from the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of National Development. The government has said additional support for large families will be announced later.

Is the CDA still closing at 12?
No. If your child is 12 or below in 2027, their CDA stays open to the end of the year they turn 16, which gives you longer to benefit from government co-matching.
