Two friends
Architecture at the waterline
Two builders studying how architecture meets the ocean, working at the scale where being wrong is cheap.
They wanted to understand how people build where the land stops, and they wanted to understand it properly rather than from photographs. So they built it. Terrain first, laid down in layers of sand, soil and clay, then a timber jetty glued plank by plank right at the waterline. Months later the same model reappears with the water painted in and a hand carved canoe tied up at the dock. Models are how architects think, and these two had already worked that out: build the idea small, find out what is wrong with it, build it again.

The same model months on, water painted in and the carved canoe at the dock.

The jetty going down plank by plank over the exposed terrain layers.
